Wataunga River

The Appalachian RC& D Council partnered with The Land Trust for Tennessee to protect their biodiverse 28 acres of land with half mile of frontage along the Watauga River in Carter County.  Only three miles from the town of Elizabethton, The Watauga is a significant water source for locals.  Apart from its critical conservation value, the river is a source of pride and spirit of the community as a popular canoeing spot and home to some of the best trophy trout fishing in Tennessee. This project closed in 2016.
