Katie O’Bryan

Glen Leven Farm Manager

As Glen Leven Farm Manager, Katie O’Bryan spearheads all of the educational programming at The Land Trust’s historic Glen Leven Farm, a 65-acre oasis located just four miles from downtown Nashville.

Katie joined The Land Trust in 2013 as our Education and Outreach Coordinator for Glen Leven Farm, and quickly developed the “Nature’s Classroom Field Trip Program.” This program now provides students grades K-8 the opportunity to explore Glen Leven Farm’s “living classroom,” which includes a historic home, arboretum, and surrounding farmland. The Nature’s Classroom Program gives teachers a unique teaching tool that fits with existing school curricula while giving students hands-on access to a crucial part of Nashville history and the great outdoors.

Katie has a Ph.D. from Middle Tennessee State University with her graduating thesis titled “Centennial Park, Nashville: The Evolution of Urban Parks as Civic Public Space,” and a mile-long resumé of impressive research and fieldwork. Katie’s warm, infectious personality and enthusiasm for Tennessee history brings Glen Leven Farm’s legacy to life. She inherited a passion for The Civil War and local history from her father and his collection of history books, and weaves it through her farm and home tours.

Born and raised in Donelson, Tennessee, Katie is a southern girl at heart who lives for football, hiking and running outdoors. She and her husband Randy have a human daughter, Annabelle, and a canine daughter, Nacho.

What do you love most about your job? “I love having the ability to be so actively involved in the preservation and conservation of an unparalleled historic and natural landscape (Glen Leven Farm), as well as getting to work on a daily basis with so many dedicated partners and volunteers toward the common goal of raising awareness of our cultural heritage and sharing amazing resources with the community..”

EMAIL KATIE if you’d like to schedule a photo shoot, event, historical group tour or school field trip to The Land Trust for Tennessee’s Glen Leven Farm.
